First Lady Michelle Obama was on Oprah’s show, where she was asked if Obama’s administration achieved it’s promise of hope for America. She went on to say that she does, because of how much less hope people are feeling now because of Trump.
“Yes. I do. Because we feel the difference now. See, now, we are feeling what not having hope feels like. You know. Hope is necessary. It’s a necessary concept and Barack didn’t just talk about hope because he thought it was just a nice slogan to get votes,” she said despite the fact that it clearly was just a nice slogan to get votes. So many Americans are now more hopeful than they’ve ever been.
“He and I and so many believe, what else do you have when you do not have hope?” she said. She went on to make a metaphor, comparing the people of America to toddlers, saying that Obama was a calm voice for them to hear when they bumped their head. Trump on the other hand, scares the toddler that is the people of America.
“I feel like Barack has been that for the nation, in ways that people will come to appreciate. Having a grownup in the White House who can say to you in times of crisis and turmoil, ‘Hey it’s going to be OK,’” she said.
